Top of the world

Babu Sassi, a fearless young man from southern India is the cult hero of Dubai 's army of construction workers.

Known as the "Indian on the top of the world", Babi is the crane operator at the world's tallest building , the 819-meter Burj Dubai. His office, the cramped crane cab perched on top of the Burj, is also his home. Apparently it takes too long to come down to the ground each day to make it worthwhile. When the building is completed, its elevators will be the world's fastest.

Stories about his daily dalliance with death are discussed in revered terms by Dubai 's workers. Some say he has been up there for more than a year, others whisper that he's paid 30,000 dirhams ($8,168) a month compared with the average wage of 800 dirhams a month. All agree he's worth it.

A Mind Set

As my friend was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. My friend saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free." My friend was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? So make an attempt to grow further.... Why shouldn't we try it again?

Toile papers

Mr Crapper invented the flushing toilet. As appropriate as his name may be, Thomas Crapper did not invent the flushing toilet. Crapper was a famous Victorian plumber whose achievements included installing the drains at Westminster Abbey, but it was Edward Jennings who, in 1852, first took out a patent for the flush-out toilet and forever improved the sanitary world.

About Gold Fish

Wild goldfish are gold. In their natural habitat, goldfish are actually green and subsist on weeds and small invertebrates. It is only domestic goldfish that are carefully selected and bred to maintain their characteristic golden-red colour. If domestic goldfish escape to a less-protected environment, the species will usually revert to an olive green hue.

Know about Money

Banknotes are made out of paper. Despite being known as “paper money”, the billion or so British banknotes that are printed every year are in fact made from cotton. The fabric is beaten to form the very thin, tightly-bonded fibres of our durable "paper" notes. This explains why money can survive an accidental whizz in the washing-machine, whereas plain paper cannot.

About Hang Gliding

Hang Gliding is a thrilling air sport where the pilot soars in the air by hanging on to an unpowered, wing shaped aircraft.Pilots can stay aloft for hours, climb thousands of feet in altitude and fly long distances, sometimes they can fly cross country too.The basic glider is a rigid frame made of fabric or aluminium. The pilot is strapped to the harness hanging down from the wing frame and lies parallel to the frame while flying.Take off is generally on foot and the pilot launches himself from a hill or a cliff.Landing can be done on foot though some class of gliders require wheels. The pilot controls the speed and direction of the glider by moving her body forward backward and side to side. Thus the craft moves in the direction of the pilot's motion.Hang Glidin is a sport which is very easy to learn.India has some world class Hang Gliding sites, particulary in the lower regions of the Himalayas. The sport can also be enjoyed in Srinagar,Sikkim and Meghalaya with scenic cross country trails in Himachal Pradesh and the Niligiri hills of Tamil Nadu.Except for monsoons,Hang Gliding is possible nearly throughout the year.

Kannathil Muthamittal my opinion

It's a tough one because there are so many movies I like. I like Mouna Raagam, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Lakshya, Roja Andaz Apna Apna and Sindhu Bhairavai. In Malayalam I love Cherunarupunjity and Vanaprastham. I like most of Mani Ratnam's movies. If I have to choose one, it has to be Kannathil Muthamittal. This was his first National award. It is really sad he won it so late. The Movie is too strong and shows how great a director he is. I shed a tear during the scene when the girl comes back to the house and the mother initially doesn't speak and finally returns by hugging her. The emotions, the chemistry between the actors, the honesty of the characters and the music is brilliant, especially Rahman's 'Vellai Pookal'.

About Synaesthesia

Synaesthesia is an interesting topic to bring into this. Although in this condition people can hear colors and see sounds etc this doesn't really answer whether they are experiencing the same. Again if you see a middle c as pink how you do know that the color you refer to as pink isn't the color I refer to as green (perceptually). I am not sure that this question will ever be answered since we can't experience another persons life, however there may be ways of inferring, which is why I brought up the concept of taste (by which I mean fashion or aesthetics) Art has suggested that certain colors are opposites. And it is true that certain colors stand out against one another this would suggest that we perceive the same colors. However some people seem to be inherently incapable of recognizing the jarring effect of certain color combinations, do they have a different perception of color or do they have another lesion elsewhere that just means they enjoy these jarring effects.
